| Smoke
Free travel is very important to many people to day. More
and more travelers want to be away from the smoke and second
hand smoke when they are away from home. This includes
smoke free hotels, smoke free airports, smoke free restaurants
and smoke free cruise ships.
SmokeFreeAirlines.com offers
information about airline smoking policies and non-smoking
policies. Smoking and second hand smoke has been proven to kill and
harm your health. Not only does smoking hurt and harm the
smoker, the research has shown that second hand smoke can cause
you the same harm as it does a smoker. This is a really
BAD deal when you do not smoke and you want to stay away from
second hand smoke.
Fortunately, the world and the world leaders are
understanding that smoking is bad and even second hand smoke is
worst. Why worst? Because it affects people who
choose to not smoke but still have the health issue of being
subject to smoke without any say so. This has to stop.
Most airports that we have looked at or have flown through
are non-smoking. There are only two stateside that I know
of that has a smoking lounge in them. Overseas, many
airports have smoking areas or lounges for the smokers. In
all the airports that we know of, they have the smoke contained
and separated from the non-smokers.
Most western countries now have rules and laws that forbid
smoking in public restaurants and bars. It has not been
popular, but, it is now the law in many countries, states and
towns. I know that France and Ireland had a real hard time
converting and many people staged protests against the
non-smoking in Irish pubs and French cafes. In fact, many
French cafes have closed within the last couple of years and
some people say the smoking laws played a big part in people not
going out to the cafes. Maybe or maybe not.
Car rental companies that we know of do not have smoking
policies or any enforcement of non-smoking rules. How many
times have you got into a rental car and it still smells like
smoke. Especially in the heat with the windows rolled up.
They do try to sanitize the cars and put air fresheners in them,
but, smoke still smells.
The biggest improvement I have seen in non-smoking is with
the hotels. There are many properties now that are totally
non-smoking and some you have to be at least 100 feet outside
the door or off property to smoke. Many of these have you
sign a $250 deposit agreement or more that if you do smoke on
site, you will pay the $250 fee as liquidated damages for
smoking in a non-smoking property. This kind of penalty
will really make you think about not smoking there, or at least
go find another hotel that allows smoking. It is very easy
now to find good, clean smelling rooms at most major hotels
worldwide when you travel.
Cruise ships are another industry that is really not trying
to stop smoking. When people smoke they drink, and then
they gamble. The cruise lines seem to have a real weak set
of non-smoking regulations and there is nothing worse than
having a cigar smoking person next door to your cabin or next to
you anywhere on the ship. Don't these people know that
they stink as bad as their cigars???? So, do not expect
any kind of help with the cruise lines. You may find that
the public restaurants and show lounges are non-smoking, but,
that will be about it. Sorry. :(
So, when it comes to staying away from second hand smoke, you
can make it easier on yourself if you take some time and
research where you are staying and how you are getting there.
Most airlines are non-smoking now a days. You need to
check with train companies to see what their smoking policies
are and if they allow smoking on the trains. Hope this
smoking page helps with your next smoke free trip.
